Keri Leigh Merritt is an independent scholar and historian. Her research focuses on race, class, labour, law, poverty and power. She is the author of Masterless Men: Poor Whites and Slavery in the Antebellum South (2017), co-editor of Reconsidering Southern Labor History: Race, Class, and Power (2018), and has a bio of Lillian Smith coming out with St Martin’s Press in 2025. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia, US.
