Having experienced an international long-distance relationship herself, the Amsterdam-based Israeli filmmaker Daphna Awadish was inspired to create a film on the conflicting emotions that accompany moving abroad for a partner. The resulting short documentary, Bear With Me, features interviews with subjects who’ve left their homelands for romantic relationships, capturing the many challenges, rewards and compromises that accompany such a dramatic life change. Pairing their words with oil pastel animations of anthropomorphic animals, Awadish’s piece forms a sweet, wistful reflection on the often intermingling feelings of love and home. For more from Awadish, watch her film Journey Birds.
