Aurore Thibaut

Post-doctoral researcher , University of Liège

Aurore Thibaut obtained her master degree in physical therapy and rehabilitation (2010), with a specialization in neuroscience (2011), from the University of Liege in Belgium. She then started her PhD at the Coma Science Group under the supervision of Prof Laureys (University of Liege, graduating in 2015). After completing her PhD she spent two years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, Harvard Medical School, under the supervision of Prof Fregni. She also closely collaborated with Prof Giacino, the director of rehabilitation neuropsychology in the department of physical medicine, Harvard Medical School. She has held a FNRS post-doctoral position since 2017, and was recently promoted to co-director of the Coma Science Group with Dr Olivia Gosseries.

Aurore Thibaut’s research focuses on non-invasive brain stimulation in patients who had suffered from a brain injury with the aim to improve brain plasticity and facilitate their recovery. She has published more than 50 papers on this topic and is leading several multicenter clinical trials. She is also working with neuroimaging and electrophysiology to objectify brain plasticity linked to these novel therapeutic approaches. She recently started to study concussion and the importance of sleep in motor learning. She currently leads several studies on this topic.
